🔨What project are you working on that you are most excited about?
I'm always excited to be developing equity-driven intergenerational programming and new inclusive enrichment features at the park I created to honor my mom's legacy of immigrant and Latino advocacy in the South. The #sarajgonzalezmemorialpark is the first memorial to a Latino in Atlanta and the only park named for one in the state of Georgia. www.sarajgonzalezpark.org
👀What makes you feel visible?
I often think -- and gripe -- about the visibility-invisibility paradox that the Latinx community has to contend with in the U.S., specifically that we are a considerable demographic, fast growing, and an important intersectional plurality, but at the same time woefully underrepresented at the proverbial tables where decisions are made. So for me, I feel visible when I'm at those tables and when I'm helping others get there too.
🌱What piece of advice would you give your younger self?
Recognize that your differences -- whatever sets you apart from others -- are assets not liabilities. My mother used to say that to me and it took a long time for it to click. I live that sentiment fully now and as a first-gen Latina I appreciate the value of diversity.
