THEY DON’T HAVE TO WIN TO EARN OUR RESPECT
Mikaela Shiffrin
Simone Biles
Yesterday, when Mikaela Shiffrin, a two-time Olympic champion and the most decorated American slalom skier in history, missed a gate early in the slalom, she sat on the side of the slope for 20 minutes with her head tucked into her knees. Later, when interviewed, she said she was “overcome with the feeling of having let herself and others down”.
Rather than a moment of weakness, Mikaela bravely took 20 minutes to express her emotions and allowed herself to be vulnerable publicly. Win or lose, we celebrate Mikaela's leadership, athleticism and courage.
Simone Biles, who courageously took a stand at the Tokyo Olympics, prioritizing her need for self care over winning, rallied to support Mikaela. Bravo!
